Camping with Freddy in Quintero
You may remember in a previous blog post I said this is not the last we hear of Freddy. Well, this is a cool adventure we got to experience together. On Monday the 10 of March Freddy, my brother and I set off to Quintero to “cowboy camp” next to the ocean. Cowboy camping is camping with a campfire, some sacks and not much else. We started this adventure by jumping on a jam-packed micro (little) bus from Con Con to Quintero. Once we got to Quintero, I was very glad to be out of that crowded bus. When I say crowded, I mean I don’t think they could physically fit one more person of that micro bus.
From the bus stop we walked to the beach where we spent the next hour collecting wood for the fire. We had to collect quite a lot considering we needed the fire to last for the full night. Once we had collected a lot of firewood, we climbed to the top of a really big hill and watched the sunset together. After watching the sunset, we climbed down the hill and lit the campfire.
We did have some safety items that Freddy brought because it is always better to be prepared. He brought a knife and a chain witch we buried with sand so that if some dogs or people tried to mess with us, we would be able to defend ourselves. We also made an escape plan just in case it was needed it for any reason. The good thing is that nothing happened, and the whole cowboy camping was pretty fun. Freddy also lit some candles and incense because it helps offer protection from harm in that area. One of the candles lasted all night.
The big question on your mind as it was for me was will, we have Marshmallows? I made sure we did! They were really good, nothing like a half burnt and melted marshmallow that tastes like campfire.
During the evening my brother was playing his play list and melting marshmallows. After 12 I got really tired and fell asleep. Also, I get cold really easily, so I was wearing five layers, and I still woke up every time the fire died down. Once that happened I would just put some more wood on the fire and make sure it was getting warmer.
In the morning, we woke up and it was foggy. We had a quick “breakfast” that consisted of M & M’s and melted marshmallow. Then we packed up to explore Quintero a little bit before getting back on the bus to Con Con where we stayed in our new accommodation.
When we got home, we were knackered and everything smelt like campfire - my backpack still smells like it.
Overall it was really fun to do some cowboy camping in Chile, South America and it’s not something I thought I would do.
Freddy if you are reading this thank you so much for taking us out, we really enjoyed ourselves and I hope you did too.
Tune in for the next blog on Reñaca
